The cause of dog allergies does not refer to the actual allergy response mechanism itself (as discussed in the section Understanding Dog Allergies) but rather to the source that is responsible for producing the troublesome allergens.
In the case of people allergic to dogs, it is the protein allergens produced by the dog itself (dog specific allergy) that are responsible for triggering an allergic reaction in those individuals. Dog related allergies refers to allergies that are indirectly associated with the dog e.g. to pollen or dust mite allergens carried on a dog’s coat.
By contrast, the source of allergens associated with allergies in dogs is both diverse and extensive, ranging from the more common (e.g. dogs allergic to certain foods or grasses), through to those less well-known that may come as a surprise to many (e.g. dogs who are allergic to other dogs or even to the allergens produced by people).
Therefore, this section will be divided into the following areas:

Allergies in Dogs Causes This section will be more comprehensive in nature given the large and varied range of potential allergens responsible for triggering an allergic reaction in dogs. Issues such as dogs allergic to plants, insects, animals and medications will be covered here. |
